How to make a
Worm Gear Reducer
With this you can make a 4e ax for your milling or engraving machine.
It’s very easy to make.
Lets start.
Take a piece of metal and place it in a 4 jug claw
Make a chamber for 2 ball bearings.
Make a ax like this.
The smallest diameter is for the smallest ball bearing.
The biggest diameter is to protect the ball bearings against chips and dust.
The upper diameter is for your gear.
This part you must make it in one time, so all the diameters are in one line.
Put them together.As you can see i have cut out a piece of the block. This because he was to high.
Make a gear wheel.
I was forgotten to take the pictures, so you see the tooth in the gear.
So all parts together.
put it on your lathe like this.
The center of the gear must be on the center of the machine.
Place a machining tap in the Jaw Chuck. I used M12.
lock your support.
Turn on your machine and move the gear to the M12 tap.
When it hits the tap, you will see that the gear is turning automatic.
As you can see the the tooth are not on the same place when it make 1 round. Donīt worry.
Use some oil.
When the tap is not so sharp anymore, please move the gear to a new position.
Set it deeper and it will be ok.
I have make a line with a marker in the upper side, so i can see that it makes 1 turn.
When its deep enough you will see something like this.
Now its ready.
